14/10/2011: And the winner is...
During the 'Open House' weekend at Gediflora the new offerings for the coming season of 2012 were presented to the public. As a bonus, some very promising varieties that are likely to get a place in the catalogue of 2013, were also revealed. Visitors could vote for their favourite top 3 amongst these contenders. The one with the most votes was bronze coloured (see photo) and will almost certainly be introduced onto the market in 2013. |

16/06/2010: Belgium Championship LFT
On 27th of June at 13h30 in the afternoon the Belgium Championship LFT will take place in Oostnieuwkerke (Belgium). The participants will be classified in 7 categories according to age and sex and they will cycle either 15 or 23 circuits locally of 2,6 km each.
Gediflora invites every sports enthusiast to participate and expects a large turnout of supporters to cheer company manager Dirk (Pieters) to victory with a pint and a sausage in their hands…

24/03/2010: Noël Vincent leaves Gediflora
From the 1st April 2010 onwards, Noël Vincent will no longer be working for our company. Very recently Noël has decided to change his job to give his career a different direction. Noël has been responsible for commercial and technical assistance in Belgium and France for the Gediflora company. He has put his heart and soul in his assignment for many years.
We would like to thank Noël for his many years of loyal service to Gediflora and we wish him all the best with his new job.

17/12/2009: Gediflora christens a new chrysanthemum
This year the professional West Flanders Association 'Sint-Fiacre' for floriculture and horticulture has existed for 120 years. The birthday was celebrated with the christening of a new chrysanthemum. The two-tone 'Fiacre' has red and yellow streaks, flowers from the end of September onwards and will be introduced onto the market in 2011. The respective godmother and godfather of this new chrysanthemum are the local Mayor, Josiane Lowie and deputy Bart Naeyaert. |

09/09/2009: Visit the Flower Trial 2009 at Gediflora
There are 262 of them: promising innovations in combination with the existing varieties. A mere 3000 plants in total. First of all this experimental Flower Trial offers you a total overview of our range of products, together with some more 'to arrive soon' innovations. Likewise the experimental Flower Trial will allow you to draw up a suitable comparison between old and new varieties. In September and October the experimental Flower Trial can be viewed by appointment. We will be very pleased to show you round our experimental Flower Trial grounds. 05/07/2009: 1st Gediflora Grand Prix
For the very first time in its existence Gediflora organised its own cycling competition. On 5 July in the afternoon the 1st Gediflora Grand Prix took place in Oostnieuwkerke in Belgium. The participants were classified in 8 categories according to age and sex and they cycled either 15 or 23 circuits locally of 2,6 km each. With a pint and a sausage in their hands, the many supporters cheered company manager Dirk Pieters to victory. He finished 1st in his category! |

07/04/2009: Gediflora builds additional office space
At the start of this year, Gediflora began works on new offices. The works are now completed and the results are there for all to see. Planning, production and transport managers have already taken up residence in this new ‘beating heart’ of Gediflora. The new offices will certainly also have a positive impact on team spirit and collaboration. |

03/11/2008: Visit by Minister Hilde Crevets
This year, Gediflora installed the 10,000th photovoltaic installation in Flanders. Flemish Minister Hilde Crevits came to congratulate us personally. This was also covered in the news. Installing solar panels is extremely popular. In a year’s time, the installed capacity of photovoltaic solar panels tripled. |

04/09/2008: Individual visits by appointment
Gediflora will no longer have an annual open day. Nevertheless, there is still the possibility to visit Gediflora by appointment and have a look at our range and our new varieties. When you visit us, we will be able to spend some time with you, which was not always possible during a busy open day. |

27/06/2008: Solar panels
Renewable energy is a hot topic because the prices for fossil fuels are rocketing. That’s why Gediflora is investing in solar panels, a good alternative which provides green electricity. The solar panels are being installed on the roof of the company building and are almost finished. They have a capacity of 140 kWp, with an annual yield of 119,000 kWh. This can be compared to 1 year of green electricity for 40 families. |

10/06/2008: A new planting robot
Even though the height of deliveries of exit material is behind us now, the filling of pots and planting of our own culture is still done at a busy time. To save on labour, as of this year, we have deployed a planting robot to further automate the potting process. Next to that an extra buffer line ensures that the potting machine can keep on operating at a constant level, which increases the productivity. |

Just over a year ago, Gediflora decided to have the activities of the company run along the lines of the MPS-standard. Especially the registration of the consumption of resources occupies centre stage. In the meantime we have become a ‘participant’ of MPS. Apart from our main activities, there are always additional jobs to do in a horticultural company (such as carpentry and metalworking). In order to be able to carry out these additional jobs properly, we have started building a real workplace, not only benefiting the work that needs to be done, but also the security. |

06/03/2008: Damage due to heavy storm
One of our water booms was blown over by a strong wind during last weekend’s heavy storm. The water booms run on a rail and despite being equipped with an impact bumper, the strong gusts were too much for one of the water booms which crashed into the impact bumper and tipped over. Unfortunately, the water boom was completely destroyed. |

30/01/2008: Gediflora at IPM
Gediflora took part for the first time in the IPM International Plant Fair in Essen, one of the most important plant fairs in the world. It was a success definitely worth repeating in 2009. Our stand was visited by growers, breeders, agencies and representatives from many different propagation and plant-breeding companies from every corner of Europe and further afield. They were all introduced to the best of what Belgium has to offer: Belgian beer, Belgian chocolates and of course, our own Belgian Mums ! |

Not without some pride we would like to introduce you to our new catalogue and our 24 new varieties. You are already aware of the Belgian Mums® concept but do you know the name Ziggy yet? Ziggy cuttings are a new line within the Belgian Mums®. The classical Belgian Mums® can be recognised by their circular shape, flexibility, uniform flowering, ... Ziggy cuttings, on the other hand, mainly catch your eye due to their larger flowers, a slightly different plant shape and a flowering that is more spread out. Not less, but different! 01/11/2007: End of the chrysanthemum season 2007
The end of an extremely difficult chrysanthemum season is in sight. There have been problems when planting out chrysanthemums in the field in many places due to flooding. The summer was not that good either and at the end we also had to deal with frost. Growers really had problems to ensure they could offer a high quality. We do, however, hope that the chrysanthemum season 2007 can be closed as required by our growers. |

17/09/2007: Open house days 6 and 7 October 2007
They are only around the corner. Our yearly open house days will be held on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October 2007. The theme for this year is "Brazil". You can meet our new varieties and the Ziggy Line in a true Brazilian setting during these open house days. Our doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. We hope to see you then! |

03/09/2007: New development of canteen, office and laboratory (part 3)
Work on the new buildings has moved ahead at great speed since the holidays. The glass walls are in place and the floors are nearing completion. If the various contractors continue to move ahead at the pace set since the holidays ended, construction work should be completed by the beginning of October. Just in time, because in the weekend of the 6 and 7 October the Gediflora annual open days are being organised. |

03/09/2007: BK for florists
As is our custom every year on the last Sunday in August we participated in the BK for Florists, but again this year the Gediflora team was not entirely successful. Both Dirk and Wim launched several attacks but did not manage to keep this up till the end. Because of their extreme efforts during the course, they fell short during the mass sprint. Dirk finally finished in 6th place, and Wim in 9th place. But we need not feel too bad about it, perhaps next year we will be successful? |

17/08/2007: A bad start to the chrysanthemum season
Copious rain in July and August have led to problems in chrysanthemum cultivation. There has been flooding in many places that has resulted in root death. The few sunrays, for that matter, are stimulating flowering while, inversely, they stilt growth. This means that we have compact plants and a premature flowering in the Summer line varieties. Encourage the plants to grow now by supplying additional nutrients. Currently, chrysanthemums cannot be sold regardless of how attractive the price may be. We sincerely hope that the market will again receive a boost later on! |

13/06/2007: Bert Leeflang is retiring
Mr. Bert Leeflang has decided to retire from a long and active career. For ten years Bert was our Gediflora representative in Germany. We would like to thank Bert for a very pleasurable collaboration during all these years, and we hope he will enjoy a well-deserved rest. The area where Bert was active will be taken over by Mr. Holger Kaeppel and Mrs. Birgit Kleiber-Hess. |

03/05/2007: New development of canteen, office and laboratory (part 2)
At the beginning of this year we started work on the construction of a new cafeteria/office/laboratory. The construction work is slowly but surely progressing. We’re now three months further down the line and the structural work is almost finished. Soon the roof and the glass encasing will be placed. As soon as the building has been protected against rain, the water and electricity can be connected. |

Plant materials that meet the high quality standards Naktuinbouw has set together with producers of these materials, can now be sold with a Naktuinbouw quality mark and/or certificate. |
