| 1. General |

| Chrysanthemum is a vegetative propagated crop. True-bred propagation is achieved by means of cuttings. |

| 2. Mother plants |
|
| |
The necessary amount of cuttings is imported from Brazil. The advantages in sourcing from the southern hemisphere speak volumes:
- more sunlight = better quality cutting
- cheaper labour costs and production costs
- better uniformity of cuttings in all weight classes by sorting more
- no investment needed in expensive greenhouses for production of cuttings
- surplus in labour market
On the bed of mother plants (in soil in the greenhouse) the little mother plants are lined up next to each other.
These continuously produce cuttings from mid January until mid June. |

| 3. Orders |
|
| |
We have 2 types of orders: unrooted orders and rooted orders.
a) Unrooted orders:
The cuttings, in multiples of 50, are delivered in a sturdy cardboard box.
b) Rooted orders: |

- All cuttings are rooted in Gediflora
- The basic mixture for rooting is turf and perlite, of which peat is the main component.
- We root in a plastic tray. Which means minimum stacking space for empty packaging.
- We work with a plug, which means the root ball does not fall apart. This plug is easy to remove from the tray and does not break. And that in turn makes mechanical potting possible and simple. Moreover, growth is not interrupted (the root remains intact so the roots can grow through directly).
- The cuttings tray is designed so that all the cuttings in the tray grow in the same way. This gives us greater uniformity of cutting length and hence a more uniform batch.

Although Gediflora diverted some of its activities to Brazil, the company also further invests in Belgium. Belgium is and will remain the most important distribution centre for cuttings. Further investments will be made in packaging (Danish containers, trays for cuttings, pots,…) and in rooting space, as well as in the rooting system. Improving the quality is Gediflora's most important motive. Gediflora is therefore a member of the 'Naktuinbouw Elite®' system. 'Naktuinbouw' offers cultivators and growers a 'Quality Plus Label ', which makes top quality easily recognisable. |
