In 1952 vegetable grower Georges Pieters decides to divert his activities to the growing and propagating of pot chrysanthemums. Love, devotion and enthusiasm took his business rapidly to an enviable high standard.
At the end of the eighties the first crossbreeding took place. The second generation Pieters now also works at cultivating. The market share rises quickly in this new segment. New breeds have removed the 'exclusive' graveyard' image from the pot chrysanthemum.
Today the cuttings are no longer produced on the own premises. Almost everything is imported from Brazil and is rooted here. The large production in the southern hemisphere is instigated by the high quality requirements starting material has to comply with. Gediflora supplies starting material to Europe, the USA and Japan.
36.000 m² of glass and 10 ha outdoor is the working environment of 26 employees under the supervision of Dirk and Christine Pieters-Devolder. Together they have taken Gediflora to the top of the list of important breeders and propagators of pot chrysanthemums. |
